Where can I get financial information on non publicly traded US companies?

I need financial details (i.e a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet) for a small, but registered company in the California area. Is there any government or government-supervised website providing this information about smaller businesses?|||Short answer: NO.

A non-publicly traded (or private) company does not have to disclose any financial data to anyone. Whatever they must report to the government for tax or regulatory purposes is confidential and is not available to the public. Sometimes you can get some data from Standard %26amp; Poor's, but that is very rough data, unaudited and I would not rely on it. It is more used for credit purposes to give you an idea of the size of the company.
