The college i'm going to is a non profit organization, and i want to know where the $25,000/yr i'm putting ito it is going. Is it possible for me to collect this information? Who would i need to go through to do it? It is in Oklahoma.|||Every non profit must by law make their financial portfolio available to the public; this is how they keep their tax exempt status; you go to the head of the non profit, office, and tell them you want to see the financial information. They must supply it to you. However, usually you need to sit in their office and read it.
Also, if you are making a donation, by all means, contact the dean of the college and make an appointment to talk with him/her. Explain your concerns, you want to see how your donation will be used and to what advantage to the students. They will accommodate your wishes I am sure.

Private foundations publish legal notices in some states indicating that they've produced an annual report, and that any interested party may view it by going to the foundation's office at such-and-so address, during such-and-so hours. I'm not sure if that legal notice is required in Oklahoma or not.

If the 990 (financial information submitted to IRS) isn't there, you can request it for the past three years at their offices and they have to give the whole 990 to you.|||You can usually get the information directly from the organization. First check their website, searching for the annual report. This will give you a great deal of information about their income and expenses, and should also detail major initiatives, capital projects, as well as status detail on ongoing initiatives.
