Where can I look to find financial information on an industry and for small companies in that industry?

I need information on the data mining industry, like how much money that industry generates per year and what share a small, medium, or large company reports each year. Can I get the information for free?? What SIC code would be appropriate for software written to sell to companies to use directly or to incorporate it into their product?
